1882 to the Future: Metallic Ruby Red Corset Body

This year’s YWU and FR Double Period Pattern competition gave the option of focussing on the Natural Form era (1877 – 1882). As a corsetmaker that likes to dip into Victorian references but not be restrained by the need for historical accuracy, the DPP project got me thinking about researching corset patents from the 1877 – 1882 and possibly using elements of those to create a decidedly contemporary corset. Really, I was interested in reflecting the period’s character (long tight silhouettes and wild decoration) from a modern standpoint.
